⚑ Westinghouse Atom Smasher

The Westinghouse Atom Smasher was an enormous Van de Graaf generator used for the first generation of nuclear research. Until 2015, seeing it from the highway as you drove through Forest Hills was a part of the Pittsburgh experience. In 2015 it was knocked over and the building torn down. In August 2023 I stopped by with my iPhone on a scouting trip and learned that it would be OK to photograph it. Recently I stopped by with some friends from the New Kensington Camera Club and we spent a beautiful spring afternoon in early February!!! exploring the ruins with our professional cameras and my drone. These images are my interpretations of what is an unfortunate situation.
